Namaste, Zen, Complication and Other New Mobiles

I've been busy!  Just finished the Great Mississippi River Balloon Race here in Natchez, MS.  This is my favorite time of year.  The season is changing from, "searing hot burn your eggs on the hood of your car in a microsecond" to "ahhhh!  Attic fan"!  Yup, Fall and Winter are my favorite seasons for sure!

Here are some of my newest mobiles:

Sanity!  Who says?

Someone just said to me, "They are insane".  She was referring to other employees costume choices for our company Halloween party.  I told her that they were in good company!

Sanity!  What is sane?  What is insane?  Sanity is just one persons perception of how things should be.  What you think is insane is probably perfectly sane to a majority of people.

I say that those who claim to be sane are quite mad indeed.  It is the rest of us, those who dare to be different, who aren't afraid to explore the unknown, who choose to take a different path.... we are the sane ones.  Those who do everything as it should be done, who are sheep and follow the paths that others have created, they are the insane ones!  Ha!

Great Sayings for the Day!

Life's a Garden...... DIG IT!

Laugh every day!

Don't wish your life away.

I'm happy for today... to hell with Friday!

I want to experience today to its fullest.

Friday can take care of itself, eventually.

Don't rush through life (unless its dishes or laundry and then rush away)!

I don't have a plan, but I plan to make a plan sometime later!

This post is dedicated to my good friend Rachel Torres who spends her time wishing for  Saturday, and Sunday and rarely enjoys any other day of the week

I Just Love a Good Museum!

But the closest "good" museum is almost 4 hours away in New Orleans.  I can spend hours and hours just soaking up gallery after gallery.  I can't take any friends or family because they don't enjoy it as much as I do.  They want to move on and I want to stay put!  I linger so long as to make the gallery guardians nervous.  So, when I found the Google Art Project, I was instantly hooked!
State Hermitage Museum - St Petersburg, Moscow

The Google Art Project is powered very similar to Google Maps.  But instead of virtually driving down the road you virtually walk around a museum!  You have the opportunity to linger and really study the paintings.  You can zoom in close and really see the detail and patina of the painting.  I know I am going to spend many hours exploring the greater museums of the world on this website when I have free time, like while eating a meal.

Cost - Zero - Priceless

Virtually visit for yourself and you will see amazing things that only a trip around the world could reveal.

Etsy Relevance Search.... Baaahhhhh!

I have been a huge fan of Etsy for quite some time.  If it wasn't for them, I wouldn't have been as successful as a I have been.  But... and of course you knew this paragraph would have a but in it, they have changed the way their product search is handled and my sales have dropped.... dramatically.  Their search is now based on relevance but when I try a random search for one of my mobiles it is buried on page 15 or 20.  Before they made their search change I could post a mobile and see at least 20 views each day for the first 5 days after listing.  Granted, 20 views in the grand scheme of the world wide web isn't fantastic but it was acceptable.  Now I'm lucky if I get 5 views per day.  It is very discouraging to continue the effort with ETSY.

I have tried a couple of tests to see if their relevancy search has any rhyme or reason and I can't find the sweet spot.  I have changed my listing titles to be very specific..... for instance, Blue Mobile.  I also made Blue Mobile my first tag in my tags.  After relisting the Blue Mobile and waiting 1 day, I can't find the Blue Mobile in my search for Blue Mobile.  I even tried creating a brand new listing, logged out of ETSY, and searched for Blue Mobile again.... oh, there it is, page 16.  Very frustrating.

The only thing that seems to be working is my number of items available for sale has increased so if the right person somehow finally finds my kinetic mobile sculptures, they will have a great selection!

In the mean time, I think I will focus more on direct sales from my website, http://www.skysetter.com.  I am learning the website platform, Joomla, and hope to have a fully functional, snazzy, snappy, and fun website when I have completed the process.  I won't stop my relationship with Etsy... I need them.  But maybe, I'll just slow it down a bit.  Not make it my main focus.  Focus on the art more and the sales less.

Newbies - The Group Has Some Company

I took some time and worked on my painting techniques for Hot Air Balloon Kinetic Mobile Sculptures.  Here in Natchez MS we have a hot air balloon festival every year.  It is the talk of the town and our largest event per year!  So, the first set of pictures is the mobile series I will create specifically for the Great Mississippi River Hot Air Balloon Race 2011.  The others are new children to the flock!
