New Moving Paintings Kinetic Art Mobiles created by Carolyn Weir

When I discovered Alexandar Calder's kinetic mobiles in 2009 I was awestruck by their beauty and grace.  Then I immediately had three thoughts:
  • I can do this!  This is creative outlet I have been looking for all my life!
  • They need more color.  Perhaps multiple colors on each piece instead of solid colors
  • and finally.... Wouldn't a moving painting be so incredibly cool!
So, I started my journey in 2009.  I had never painted but had a vision of what I wanted to see.  I studied color theory and watercolor painting from a local artist, Marina Cavette.  Then went off in my own direction creating mobiles with many different types of components but still in the original basic style of Calder.  I was careful not to copy his configurations but instead come up with my own configurations but they were still quite Calder looking.  Along the way I created prototypes of my original moving painting concept and sold them but they lacked the painting style and stiffness I was looking for.

As of November 2013 I have finally achieved the painting skills to bring my vision to life.... THE MOVING PAINTINGS.  They are created with original watercolor paintings with a wood core.  Hours of balancing brings this unique kinetic mobile sculpture to life!

So, in conclusion I wanted to take a moment to document my timeline for these creations.  I feel that the moving paintings are an original design that I alone created.  I could be wrong and if so, please, comment below and provide me with your examples of similar original moving painting designs that are kinetic mobile in nature.
